Norwood Swimming Club has successfully defended its title of Champion Club at the recent State Short-Course Championships. Norwood finished on top of the podium with 4800.5 points in front of Marion and Playford Aquatic Swimming clubs. The club finished with a final individual medal tally of 103 gold, 117 silver and 84 bronze. An incredible achievement for our great club!
Huge congratulations to Mia Slade, taking out the Maidstone Trophy for the best female performance of the competition for her incredible 200 back swim, and Liam Bekric for winning the Matt Cowdrey multi-class trophy. We retained the Bayside Aquatic Shield for winning the individual competition.
We were excited to see the inclusion of the inaugural Multi-Class relays and it was wonderful to see our Norwood swimmers, Liam Bekric, Darcy Bekric, Sophie Pontifex and Harry Pontifex, win medals in these events.
Huge thanks to our fabulous coaching team - Shaun, Cedric, Luke, Ebony, Paul and Alana - for being on pool deck and leading the team all week. Thanks also to our dozens of technical officials, team managers, parents and other supporters. Selma Barlow and Jennie Phillips-Hughes officiated multiple times across the meet, including on the always-hectic relay day, the club is so appreciative. A special shout out to Norwood member Thomas Perrotta, who, after just two official announcing stints, was part of the evening commentary team each night alongside the "Voice of Swimming" in Australia, Swimming SA chairman Peter Graham. What a magnificent job you did, Thomas!
