Our coaching team
Norwood Swimming Club

All training arrangements for Norwood Swimming Club members are made directly through our alliance partner, Norwood Swim School. Norwood Swim School provides the highest quality coaching staff from 'learn to swim' programs through to producing Australian Championship finalists. The majority of our coaching staff have themselves been competitive swimmers and know what your children are going through and how to best encourage and train them to achieve their goals.

Head Coach - Shaun Curtis
I began my swimming career here at Norwood Swimming Club in 1995. I swam through until 2005 with High Performance squad before moving onto playing State Water Polo and taking up a coaching position in 2007 with SASI Water Polo and SA Water Polo.
I began my work as employee at Norwood Swim School in 2005 and worked as an instructor and junior coach before I became a permanent assistant coach to Peter Bishop in 2008 and became Head Coach in 2012. I have a huge passion about the ‘TEAM’ culture across the whole swimming club. Each swimmer, parent, official, coach, committee member has crucial role in the team. The goal of each person involved is to see swimmers improve and reach their ultimate potential. This will lead to National champions, State champions and, most importantly, great club representatives.
Swimming brings so many skills to each individual, this goes beyond the technical aspects and into life skills that are taught through the commitment and dedication required to be a successful swimmer.
A philosophy based on a strong focus of technique, skills and teamwork give swimmers a strong foundation to have long term development as an athlete into their senior swimming years.

Development Coach - Luke Curtis
I started swimming at the age of 4 at Norwood Swim School. I went on to join Norwood Swimming Club at 6 and started off competitively swimming at local and country carnivals. From there my swimming took me onto State Championships and onto the National stage.
At National level I went onto represent Norwood in National finals and won a bronze medal in the 400 IM. At a National Open level I was able to achieve in the top 12 finish in the 400IM.
I also had the opportunity to receive a scholarship to a College in the USA to swim in the collegiate system. I gained valuable experience in this environment which I have been able to incorporate into my coaching.
I have worked at Norwood Swim School since 2008 as a learn-to-swim instructor and junior coach. All of this this has given me a chance to get a have a good understanding of the whole swimming experience.
My philosophy revolves around high quality technique, this is key to establish a stable base for their swimming future.

Growing up as a country swimmer, I think sun, chlorine and grass go together like goggles and a cap, and it was with the Murray Bridge Swimming Club that I developed my love of swimming and coaching. With swimming, I believe that the three most important things are technique, technique, technique. You need that solid base of good form to build on and I love seeing the moment when swimmers realise how to swim better and more efficiently.
